Because in incantation languages like Classical Tamil, each word has many possible meanings to it, with mind humbly invoking Lord Siva's Grace, we just have to look into the classical Tamil dictionary for the meaning of each word in a Tirumantiram verse that yields a coherent and wholesome meaning.

Tirumantiram 157 - Tantra 1 - Close relatives close their minds and depart, upon our death

ஆர்த்தெழு சுற்றமும் பெண்டிரும் மக்களும்
ஊர்த்துறைக் காலே ஒழிவர் ஒழிந்தபின்
வேர்த்தலைப்* போக்கி விறகிட்டு எரிமூட்டி
நீர்த்தலை மூழ்குவர் நீதி இல்லோரே         157

Reverberating and embracing relatives (men), (their) women and (their) children,
Town-frontier-separating-way-in disappear-will, (and) disappeared-after,
Tear-suffering* having-cast, logs-having-piled-up (and) fire-having-lit
Water-tip dip-will truth-force bereft-of-ones                   157

Those men, women and children who reverberate and embrace (while one is alive),
will disappear in the way separating the frontier of the town (in which one's dead body abides),
and after having disappeared, those that are bereft of truth-force, will,-
a)  cast aside their tear-suffering (which suffering they merely displayed),
b)  pile up the logs (for burning the dead one's body), (and) light up the funeral pyre, and
c)  dip themselves in the tip of the water (only to clean their bodies)

*  வேர்த்தல் although may mean "sweat flowing from the skin due to heat",
    here it may be said to mean
    "tears flowing from the eyes due to suffering (displayed on the occasion of the death of a relative)"

Tirumantiram 156 - Tantra 1 - Seeking money to resolve difficulties, will only force difficulties to continue

வைச்சு அகல்வுற்றது கண்டு மனிதர்கள்
அச்சு அகலாது என நாடும் அரும்பொருள்
பிச்சது வாய்ப்பின் தொடர்வுறு மற்றவர்
எச்சகலா நின்று இளைக்கின்றவாறே.   156.

"Despicability expanded", having-seen humans,
"Difficulty will-expand-not", thus will-seek the "difficult-to-obtain"-material.
"Ignorance"-that (-they-)get-if, (difficulty-)contiue-will(.)  "Other-thing"-they
"Deficiency-departed-not having-abided", to-slacken(-continue) (!)

1  Human beings having seen that their despicability (on account of lack of money) has expanded,
2  will seek money that is difficult to obtain, 
    thinking that their difficulty will not expand (if they have money).
3  If they get that ignorance, their difficulty will only continue.
4  Other thing is that they will continue to slacken, 
    on account of their deficiency not having departed.

Tirumantiram 155 - Tantra 1 - Upon our death, all our possessions and known ones desert us

மதுவூர்க் குழலியும் மாடும் மனையும்
இதுவூர் ஒழிய இதணமது ஏறி
பொதுவூர்ப் புறம் சுடுகாடு அதுநோக்கி
மதுவூர் வாங்கியே வைத்து அகன்றார்களே.  155.

Pollen-spreading* haired-she-and wealth-and house-and
This-town(-in) moving-away(,) security-platform-that (having-)ascended(,)
Common-town -outskirts cremation-ground that-towards (the dead man's body was departing)
Pollen-spreading** curve-itself (having-)placed moved-away (!)

1  With,-
    a)  the pollen-spreading (flower-adorning-)haired-she (the dead man's wife),
    b)  (his) wealth, and
    c)  (his) house,
    in this town, moving away (from the dead man),
2  (the dead man's body) having ascended
    the security-platform (at the borders of the town),
4  (the known-ones) having placed
    the pollen-spreading curve (of flowers) and moved away (!)
3  (the dead man's body was departing) towards
    that common cremation ground at the outskirts of the town.

*    on account of the dead-man's wife's hair being adorned with flowers
**  on account of the curve (placed upon the dead body in honor of the dead man) being one of flowers

முப்பதும் முப்பதும் முப்பத்து அறுவரும்
செப்ப மதிள்உடைக் கோயில்உள் வாழ்பவர்
செப்ப மதிள்உடைக் கோயில் சிதைந்தபின்
ஒப்ப அனைவரும் ஓட்டெடுத்தார்களே.  154.

1  The thirty (30) and the thirty (30) and the thirty six (36) *
2  agreeably wall-having temple-within living-ones
3  Agreeably wall-having temple fallen-after
4  Agreeing all fleeing took-to-they.

Tirumantiram 153 - Tantra 1 - Even powerful men die, just like any one normally

நாட்டுக்கு நாயகன் நம்மூர்த் தலைமகன்
காட்டுச் சிவிகை ஒன்றேறி கடைமுறை
நாட்டார்கள் பின்செல்ல முன்னே பறைகொட்ட
நாட்டுக்கு நம்பி நடக்கின்றவாறே.  153.

Literal Translation
1  Place-to (the-)Head  Our-Town('s) Chieftain
2  Reminding cot-abiding-vehicle one-ascending last-time
3  Place-residents behind-going front-in trumpet-blowing
4  Ground (cremation/burial) - to men-among-special going-nature. 153.

Lucid Translation
1  Head (man) of the (residing) place (and) Chieftain of the town,
2  Ascending for the last time on to one cot-abiding-vehicle reminding (of death impending for all),
3  With residents (of the place where he used to reside) going behind (and) trumpets blowing in front,
4  This is the nature of the special-among-men going to (cremation/burial) ground !!!

Tirumantiram 152 - Tantra 1 - With 9 body-openings closing, relatives depart weeping

பந்தல் பிரிந்து அது  பண்டு ஆரம் கட்டற்ற
ஒன்பது வாசலும் ஒக்க அடைத்தன
துன்புறு காலம் துரிசுவர மேன்மேல்
அன்புடை யார்கள் அழுதகன் றார்களே. 152.

Literal Translation
1  Spreading-creeper-expanse (having) separated,
                that (body is an) ancient ornament.  Binding-(having)ceased,
2  nine gates equal-as-to-abide closed (themselves).
3  (At the) sorrow-to-adjoin time, sorrow-arriving one-after-the-other,
4  Love-having-ones having wept, departed.

Lucid Translation
1)  That physical body is an ancient ornament for (the subtle body of)
      the spreading-creeper-expanse which has separated from the physical body.
2)   The 9 gates of the physical body abide as being equal to closed holes
       (with no vital energies moving in or out of them)
3)   a)  At the 'sorrow-adjoining' time *,
      b)  with sorrow** arriving one after the other,
      those having love for the dead one, wept and departed.

*   due to the outbursts of cries by the relatives

** the stream of bewailing relatives (bottling up sorrow inside them) arriving one after the other,
      to console those bereaved by the dead one

Tirumantiram 151 - Tantra 1 - We die leaving behind our beloved and wealth

கைவிட்டு நாடிக் கருத்தழிந்து அச்சற
நெய்யட்டிச் சோறுண்ணும் ஐவரும் போயினார்
மையிட்டக் கண்ணாளும் மாடும் இருக்கவே
மெய்விட்டுப் போக விடை கொள்ளுமாறே.  151 

Literal Translation
1  Hold-abandoned body-dweller-(her) memory-destroyed body-severed,
2  Blood-adjoined -food-eating five-also left,
3  Collirium-laid eyed-she*-and wealth-also abiding(-left-over)-with
4  body-abandoned go-to leave taking-mode (!)

Lucid Translation
1)  The body-dweller (of the subtle body),
     a)  with the (abidance in the physical) body having been severed,
     b)  the memory of the physical body having been destroyed,
     abandoned the hold over the physical body.
2)  The five (vital energies) that eat food, adjoining the blood, also left (the physical body)
3)  The wife with collyrium-laid eyes and the wealth of the dead one were left over.
4)  The dead one took to the mode of taking leave, having abandoned the physical body.

Tirumantiram 150 - Tantra 1 - Our relatives burn their affection for us in the fire of our funeral pyre

வாசந்தி-பேசி மணம்-புணர்ந்த அப்பதி
நேசம்-தெவிட்டி நினைபபொழிவார்(.) பின்னை
ஆசந்தி மேல்வைத்து அமைய அழுதிட்டுப்
பாசம் தீச்சுட்டுப் பலியட்டினார்களே    150 

Literal Translation
1  Spring-season-'malligai'* -dress(-of) smell-adjoined that-spot**-(of)
2  love-(having)-spat memory-lose-will-they(,the relatives.)  Head-hair
3  corpse-carrying-bamboo-pole-pair***- upon-(having)-kept sufficient-to-become (having-)cried
4  affection (corpse-scorching-)fire-(by-having)-scorched ash-(es)-aggregated-they(!)

Lucid Translation
1)  The smell of the spring-season-malligai*-flower-dress (adorning the dead body)
     adjoined that spot** where the dead body was kept.
2)  The relatives (of the dead person), having spat their love for the dead one,
     will lose their memory of the dead one.
3)  The relatives cried sufficiently, having kept the hair of their heads,
      over the corpse-carrying bamboo-pole-pair***.
4)  They aggregated the ashes (left over after burning the corpse)
      after having scorched their affection (for the dead one) in the fire that burnt the corpse.
 

Glossary of Terms
*      'malligai' is a kind of fragrant flower used to adorn corpses

**    the spot where the flower-adorned corpse is kept 
        before being taken to the burial/cremation ground

*** 2 bamboo-poles kept parallel and tied 
        with cooconut-tree-leaves in between them, for the corpse, 
        a)  to be placed upon the said leaves, and 
        b) to be carried to the cremation ground 
             by 4 relatives/others holding upon their shoulders 
             the 4 corners  of the said 2 bamboo-poles

Tirumantiram 149 - Tantra 1 - Even knowing that body can be preserved for a time, the subtle body does not return to it

மன்றத்தே நம்பி மாடம் எடுத்தது
மன்றத்தே நம்பி சிவிகை பெற்று-ஏகினான்
மன்றத்தே நம்பி முக்கு-ஓடி வழங்கினான்
சென்று அத்து-ஆ என்னத் திரிந்து-இலன் தானே. 149

Literal Translation
1  Long-street-in best-among-men 'enclosure' assumed
2  Long-street-in best-among-men palanquin having-obtained-crossed-he
3  Long-street-in best-among-men corner-having-run-to moved-he
4  Having-gone 'limit-prohibition'-thus stated-to returned-not-he of-own-accord (!)  

Lucid Translation
The (dead) best among men's,
1)  (physical body) a)  assumed the enclosure (1) in the long street,
                                   b)  having obtained a palanquin, crossed the long street, and
                                   c)  moved (on to the burial / cremation ground),
                                        having run to the corner (of the long street), and
2)  (subtle body) returned not of his own accord (to phsyical body),
     having (remained separate from physical body for a time that has) 
     gone to the prohibited limit (2) (of time for preserving the dead physical body).

Glossary of terms
1  'Enclosure' in line 1 refers to the enclosure 
    in which the dead body is either laid down or kept erect
    for being carried to the burial ground or cremation ground

2  'Limit' in line 4 refers to the time limit beyond which 
    the dead body may have to be disposed off
    by either being buried or being cremated

Tirumantiram 148 - Tantra 1 - Man may die suddenly, amidst sensual indulgence

அடப்பண்ணி வைத்தார் அடிசிலை உண்டார்
மடக் கொடியாரொடு மந்தணம் கொண்டார்
இடப்பக்கமே இறை நொந்தது என்றார்
கிடக்கப் படுத்தார் கிடந் தொழிந்தாரே.  148 

Literal Translation   
1  Cook-to-made laid-He food-the ate-He
2  Delicate creeper-like-(female)ones-with secret grabbed-He
3  Left-side-(alone!) mild(ly) pained thus-(said)-He
4  Aside-lay-to lied-(down)-He aside-laid subsided-He(!).

Lucid Translation
1  He ate the food (which he) made (his wife) to cook (for him) 
    and (his wife) laid (in front of him)
2  He grabbed the secret with the delicate creeper-like female (his wife).
3  He said that the left side of his body pained mildly.
4  He lied down to lay aside (the pain).  (But,) He subsided, (having been) laid aside.

Tirumantiram 147 - Tantra 1 - Upon death, not the body but its ash is left over for protection

சீக்கை விளைந்தது செய்வினை மூட்டு-இற்ற 
ஆக்கை பிரிந்தது அலகு பழுத்தது
மூக்கினில் கை-வைத்து மூடிட்டுக் கொண்டு-போய்க் 
காக்கைக்குப் பலி காட்டியவாறே.  147.

Literal Translation
1  Phlegm formed did-action rise-broken
2  Rope separated chin grey-colour-assumed
3  Nose-in rope-inner-coil-keeping taken-gone
4  Protection-for ash produced (lo! counted thus)

Lucid Translation
1  With phlegm formed, rising (association with physical frame) of past action (impressions) broken,
2  With (breath-) rope (binding Ida and Pingala nerves) separated and chin assumed grey colour
3  With physical frame taken and gone, keeping 'rope-inner-coil' in nose,
4  Protection-for ash produced (from cremation of the physical frame) (lo! counted thus)


Tirumantiram 146 - Tantra 1 - Upon disembodiment, our subtle body does not know how to re-enter the body

காலும் இரண்டும் முகட்டு-அலகு ஒன்று-உள(து)
பால்-உள் பருங்கழி முப்பத்து-இரண்டு உள
மேல்-உள கூரை பிரியும் பிரிந்தால்-முன்
போல்-உயிர் மீளப் புகல்-அறியாதே.  146.

இரண்டும் - இரண்டுபடும்

1  Air-even separation-befalling atop-nose one-abides
2  Whiteness-having thick-stick(/s) 32 abide
3  Expanded-in-front-abiding sand-house separate-will separates-if, Before-
4  -Like-life return-to entering knows-not (lo! coursed and counted thus)

1  One nose, (wherein) even air befalls separation (through its 2 nostrils),
    abides at the top (in our physical frame)
2  32 thick sticks (teeth), having whiteness, abide (in our physical frame)
3  (Our subtle body, abiding) expanded in front (of our physical frame, like a) sand-house,
    will separate (itself on our death, from our physical frame)
4  If it thus separates, it knows not how to return to and enter the physical frame like
    (it was) before (death) (lo! coursed and counted thus)

Tirumantiram 145 - Tantra 1 - Upon our disembodiment, our relatives forget us in a short while

ஊரெலாம் கூடி ஒலிக்க அழுதிட்டுப் 
பேரினை நீக்கிப் பிணம்-என்று பேரிட்டுச் 
சூர்-ஐயம் காட்டிடைக் கொண்டு-போய்ச் சுட்டிட்டு
நீரினில் மூழ்கி நினைப்பு ஒழிந்தார்களே.  145.

Literal Translation
1  Town-all gathered resound-to bewailed
2  Name removed corpse-as named
3  'Small-time'-shaking crematorial-place taken-gone scorched
4  Water-in submerged love impoverished (lo! coursed and counted thus)

Lucid Translation
1  With all town-people gathered and (relatives) having resoundingly bewailed (over death)
2  Having removed dead person's name and named (dead person's body) as 'corpse',
3  Having taken it to the 'small-time'-shaking (due to sorrow-filled atmosphere)
    crematorial place and scorched it there, and
4  Having submerged (themselves) in water, (lo!)
    they became impoverished in love towards dead relative
    (coursed and counted thus).

'small-time'-shaking crematorial place - crematorial place that shakes any one
 at least for a small time due to its sorrow-filled atmosphere

Tirumantiram 144 - Tantra 1 - Impressions and wisdom alone accompany us upon disembodiment

பண்டம்-பெய் கூரை பழகி விழுந்த-அக்கால்
உண்ட அப்பெண்டிரும் மக்களும் பின்-செலார்
கொண்ட விரதமும் ஞானமும் அல்லது
மண்டி அவருடன் வழி நடவாதே.   144.



Literal Translation
1  Knowledge-pouring sand-house having ruled fallen-that-time
2  Agreeable-to-became those-women-and folks(-and) behind-go-will-not
3  Beheld mark-and wisdom(-and) other[one(s)-than]held
4  Kneeled-down him-with path traverse-will-not (lo! coursed thus!)

Lucid Translation
1  At that time when the knowledge-pouring sand-house (of the subtle body) 
    having ruled has fallen (outside the physical frame on death),
2  those women and folks, who became agreeable to that subtle body and its 
    knowledge, while alive in the physical frame), will not go behind it (the subtle 
    body).
3  Other than the beheld mark(/s) of impression and wisdom,
4  lo! (anything else) will not traverse the path (outside the physical frame), 
    kneeling down with him (!) (that disembodied subtle body)

Tantra 1 - Tirumantiram 143 - Body is only for releasing oneself from good and bad and regaining our simple unshaken spirituality

யாக்கை நிலையாமை - Bondage non-persistence

மண்-ஒன்று கண்டு-ஈர் இருவகைப் பாத்திரம்
திண்-என்று இருந்தது தீ-வினை சேர்ந்தது
விண்ணின்று நீர்-வீழின் மீண்டும்-மண் ஆனாற் போல்
எண் இன்றி மாந்தர் இருக்கின்றவாறே.  143.


Literal Translation
1  Atom-One Thread-Ball-Pulled-(out) 2-Type (water-)Paths
2  Unshaken-thus abided Knowing-2 adjoined
3  Sky-from water-falls-if again-soil became-like
4  Mind-atomicity-without folks abiding way(!)

Lucid Translation
1  A thread-ball made of one atom (of ego or body-consciousness)
    is pulled out into (the) 2 types of (water-)paths 
    (of Ida and Pingala spiritual currents).
2  Abided unshaken thus, and knowledge of 2 (the pairs of opposites, good and evil
    adjoined (and lost its unshaken firmness thus).
3  Like water, if (it) falls from the sky, became soil again,
4  folks abided without mental atomicity this way *

Tirumantiram 142 - Tantra 1 - Beholding Siva's dance, devotees reach the sky of space

போதம்-தரும் எங்கள் புண்ணிய நந்தியைப்
போதம்-தனில் வைத்துப் புண்ணியர் ஆயினர்
நாதன் நடத்தால் நயனம் களி-கூர
வேதம் துதித்திடப் போய்-அடைந்தார் விண்ணே.  142.

Literal Translation
1  Wisdom granting our Holy Nandi (Siva)
2  Intelligence (it)self-in maintaining, Meritorious became-they
3  Lord dance-by eye joy-abounding
4  Veda Praising, (having) gone-(they-) reached Sky-at (looking above and counted thus).

Lucid Translation
1  By maintaining their intelligence in our Holy Nandi (Siva), who grants Wisdom,
2  they (the devotees of Siva) became meritorious.
3  With the joy for the eye(s) abounding by the Lord's (Siva's) dance, and
4  Veda Praising, they (the devotees of Siva) went towards and reached the Sky (of Space).
   

Tirumantiram 141 - Tantra 1 - Siva Nandi's Gloden awareness abides within our minds

சந்திப்பது நந்தி-தன் திருத்-தாள் இணை 
சிந்திப்பது நந்தி செய்ய திரு-மேனி
வந்திப்பது நந்தி-நாமம் என் வாய்மையால்
புந்திக்குள் நிற்பது நந்தி பொற்-போதமே.  141.

Literal Translation
1  Meeting-with (is) Nandi (Him-)self's Holy Feet-Pair
2  Reflecting-on (is) Nandi's Reddish Holy Form
3  Praising (is) Nandi's Name My Word-by
4  Mind-within abiding (is) Nandi's Golden Awareness (counted thus).

Lucid Translation
1   I meet with, Nandi's (Siva's) Holy Feet-Pair
2   I reflect on, Nandi's Reddish Holy Form
3   I Praise, Nandi's Name by My Word
4   Within my Mind abides, Nandi's Golden Awareness
(counted thus).

Tirumantiram 140 - Tantra 1 - Separating and encountering Siva, the 5 senses approach the Self

தானே புலன்-ஐந்தும் தன்-வசம் ஆயிடும்
தானே புலன்-ஐந்தும் தன்-வசம் போயிடும்
தானே புலன்-ஐந்தும் தன்னில் மடை-மாறும்
தானே தனித்து எம்-பிரான் தனைச்-சந்தித்தே.  140.

Literal Translation
1  Of own accord sense(s) five-all Self-authority become-will
2  Of own accord sense(s) five-all Self-dominion proceed-will
3  Of own accord sense(s) five-all Self-within path-change-will
4  Of own accord (having-)separated (and) our Lord-Himself (having-)met (counted thus).

Lucid Translation
Of their own accord, all the 5 sense(s),-
1  will become self-governed,
2  will proceed to the dominion of the (Supreme) Self,
3  will change their path to the (Supreme) Self-within
4  (having-)separated (and) met our Lord-(Siva-)Himself
(counted thus).

Tirumantiram 139 - Tantra 1 - Intelligence is every kind of association with Satguru

தெளிவு  குருவின் திருமேனி காண்டல்
தெளிவு குருவின் திருநாமம் செப்பல்
தெளிவு குருவின் திருவார்த்தை கேட்டல்
தெளிவு குரு-உரு சிந்தித்தல் தானே.  139.


Literal Translation
1  Intelligence (it is,) seeing Spiritual Preceptor's Holy Form
2  Intelligence (it is,) uttering Spiritual Preceptor's Holy Name
3  Intelligence (it is,) hearing Spiritual Preceptor's Holy Word
4  Intelligence (it is,) reflecting (on) Spiritual Preceptor's Form, of one's own accord
    (counted thus)

Lucid Translation
It is intelligence
1  seeing Spiritual Preceptor's Holy Form,
2  uttering His Holy Name,
3  hearing His Holy Word, and
4  reflecting on His Form, of one's own accord
(counted thus).

Tirumantiram 138 - Tantra 1 - Siva's Holy Feet is everything...

திருவடியே சிவம் ஆவது தேரில்
திருவடியே சிவ லோகம் சிந்திக்கில்
திருவடியே செல்கதி அது செப்பில்
திருவடியே தஞ்சம் உள் தெளிவார்க்கே.  138.

Literal Translation
1  Holy-Foot-Itself Sivam become-will inquire-if
2  Holy-Foot-Itself Siva('s) Abode think-if
3  Holy-Foot-Itself Going-Destination that utter-if  
4  Holly-Foot-Itself Refuge Inner Penetrating-Ones-for (counted thus!)

Lucid Translation
1  If (you) inquire, (Siva's) Holy Feet themselves will become
    Sivam (Parasiva, the Absolute Existence).
2  If (you) think, (Siva's) Holy Feet themselves (are) Siva's Abode
3  If (you) utter, (Siva's) Holy Feet themselves (are) that Destination towards which we are going
4  For those penetrating into themselves, (Siva's) Holy Feet themselves are the Refuge (counted thus!).
